040: ... And They All Lived Happily Ever After

Oct 16, 2022

One of my kiddos is writing his essay for the Common App for colleges.

He came out of his bedroom to tell me that the app recommended that they not end with "...and they all lived happily ever after."

I laughed and said, "Learning doesn't always end with, 'and they all lived happily ever.'"

And it had me immediately thinking back on my biggest learning experiences. Often I felt
🙃uncomfortable,
🥺stretched,
😳embarrassed, and
🧐reflective.

Only later I felt
😮exhilarated,
🤩motivated, and
😍inspired to act on my new learning.

His essay worked backward from my own experiences. He was inspired by the realization that a group project could positively impact his school - establishing library after-school hours.

Unfortunately, too many political and social issues halted the project.
